Dear Friends:
Mother's Day is around the corner and I hope you will take 15 minutes to write a letter and submit it in our essay contest. We have some excellent input from a colleague to prepare you for the prom and graduation celebrations... and to acknowledge my 100th 2 Minute Tip I asked YOU to offer your best tip for your peers which I share in a link below.

Enjoy spring. Enjoy your teens. Tune in every day to their feelings, their point of view, and encourage their growing competence and independence.

Warmly,
Sue Blaney

Mother's Day - "Write Your Teen a Love Letter" Essay Contest

Mother's Day is a wonderful time to consider how being a mother has changed you. Think about what your children have taught you, and how you are better off as a result of having them in your life. And think how special it will be to turn the tables a bit on Sunday morning, and share a letter to your teenagers after getting your breakfast in bed.

Please take a few minutes to write a letter to your teen(s). Share it here first by submitting it to our essay contest. The two best letters will receive a free copy of our award-winning audiobook, You're Empowered! Parenting Teens with Conviction, Communication and Love.

Click to get details; and Submit your essay here before Sunday May 9.

 Cut From the Team and
Other Tragedies
It can be devastating for your teenager if s/he doesn't make the team, but that isn't the only major disappointment that will come his way. I've learned these times can be extremely painful for parents as well as for the kids, and in this article I offer some approaches to help you through these difficult situations. Read on

Get Ready for Prom Season
Spring arrives with lots of reasons to celebrate... and with it come some opportunities for dangerous behavior. Better to think through possible scenarios in advance, and best to be smart and proactive about keeping your teenagers safe. Jeff Wolfsberg is a alcohol and drug abuse expert who has shared a guest blog post you will find helpful.

Here is an article I post annually about this important topic:

Parenting Exhaustion,  Teen Rebellion and more

When does engaged parenting go too far and make a teen want to rebel?
Can parents ever take the easy way out? These questions don't have easy answers,  but we can examine the questions and help one another through them.

The Social Web

This video does a great job of demonstrating how communication on the web offers fundamental and beneficial changes to the way people communicate and collaborate. As parents of teens you are very aware of  the changes in communication that are impacting your teen, but you may not always be as aware of the benefits of these changes. I found this video rather inspiring that way... click to view video.

Let's Talk about PARENTHOOD

NBC'S Tuesday night show Parenthood is growing in popularity because the characters are real, the show is well written, and the situations are poignant and credible. After each new episode I post discussion questions about the show, so we can dig in a bit and share our comments, reactions and thoughts. Please join us in these interesting chats. Come to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ParentingTeenagers.
