I remember when I was in elementary school studying a unit on the middle ages. We each had to create a project, and I chose to make a castle - and I made it out of sugar cubes! When kids use media and materials that are fun and familiar they are more engaged. Matt's article does a great job of demonstrating how parents might consider Facebook the collaborative tool that it is, rather than a threat and distraction. Of course, as is usually the case, there are pros and cons to every approach. But the kids' who are being educated in a way that embraces today's tools will be ahead of the game. Thank you Matt Levinson for allowing me to reprint your interesting piece.
