“Cotton Candy Friends”

Parents of teens sometimes express concern about your teens’ seemingly shallow relationships as you witness them “text” and “IM” rather than get together in face-to-face connection. My colleague and friend Vanessa Van Petten comments that the superficial connections fostered in this Facebook-Twitter obsessed world leave her and her peers hungry for more. She says “The teen (and 20 something) social interaction right now is like cotton candy, its fun and tasty for a little while, but after two hours you are hungry for real food, real connection.” Read her guest post “Cotton Candy Friends.”
