The Power of the Right Question

May 6th, 2007 by Sue Blaney

Carol received a call from her 20 year-old daughter who was visiting New Zealand. Her daughter was ecstatic as she reported on her adventurous plunge into a ravine while tethered to a bungee cord. Carol shared this story with several colleagues who were sitting around a conference table awaiting the beginning of our meeting. Stories like this turn many parents into jelly as we can’t help but contemplate the dangers of such risky behavior. But Carol surprised us all when she told us the first question she asked her daughter. “I asked her what she paid for her adventure,” she said. “You probably wonder why I asked her that,” she continued. “I happen to know that girls who jump nude get to go free.”

This informed Mom sure knew the right question to ask! :>
